Since long before donald trump ran for office the first time I was aware of his out-of-control ego and narcissism. Just the fact that he referred to himself as ‘the Donald’ was a clear indication that he could never accept the fact that he was, actually a normal, perhaps below average, individual

As his business failures piled up and the bankruptcies seemed to be never-ending, I could not imagine that he would, someday, actually become the (pretend) President of the United States of America.

I could not, and to this day cannot, begin to understand how any rational, thinking citizen of this formerly great country could support him. The utter contempt he displays for anyone who does not pay fealty to him, the blatant racism and bigorty he promotes, the total lack of empathy or ethics which is on constant display, make it extremely difficult for me to understand why there are so many like-minded citizens in America.

After losing the 2015 presidential election to Hillary Clinton by some 3,000,000 votes, he nevertheless became President of the United States by receiving more ‘electoral college’ votes than Mrs. Clinton. In other words, ‘the will of the people be damned’.

As if that weren’t enough insanity, the House of Representatives and the Senate also came under control of the (former) Republican party, insuring that no matter the consequences, trumps agenda would be approved by Congress. Not that he cared whether or not anyone approved.

It didn’t take long for trump to display his intent for the future of the country. Among his campaign promises was to eliminate the ACA, or Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. This legislation, passed under the leadership of President Obama, made it possible for millions of Americans to get medical treatment they would have otherwise been unable to receive.

trump also promised to ‘drain the swamp’. He just sort of forgot to mention that he intended to turn it into a sewer. It didn’t take long for that to become apparent, however. His appointments of heads of the various departments were a clear indication of his intent to reduce or eliminate those which did not agree with his agenda. Environmental protections were to be wiped out. Safety regulations were to be eliminated, etc.

The appointment of Rick Perry, former governor of Texas, as head of the Department of Energy would have been laughable if it weren’t for the damage it did to public protections. As a presidential candidate himself, Perry had proposed the elimination of three agencies: Department of Education, Commerce Department, and DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY! An oilman through and through, Perry’s total commitment was to the petroleum energy industry, not to the American public.

Betsy DeVoss, daughter-in-law of Rich DeVoss, a co-founder of Amway, was a firm believer in diverting money for public education into the hands of operators of private schools, AKA theological indoctrination centers, so, of course, she became Secretary of Education!

Scott Pruitt, former Attorney General of Oklahoma, was an arch enemy of the Environmental Protection Agency. As AG he sued the EPA numerous times in his pursuit of total deregulation of the petroleum industry. So, of course, he became the Director of the EPA.

Dr. Ben Carson, also a former presidential candidate, was a well respected heart surgeon. After dropping out of the presidential race, he became a trump acolyte. One of his pet peeves was government aid to poor people. He said, not verbatim, “poverty is a state of mind.” He felt that the government spent far more on aid to the poor than it should. So, of course, trump made him head of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD. The very agency which is responsible for helping the poor.

The list goes on and on but there is an underlying theme to the whole process; “Screw America”.

In later ‘rants’, I’ll discuss other shenanigans pulled by this administration throughout the ‘reign of terror’ to which we have been subjected since 2016.

It is my full belief that America cannot survive another full four years of this sort of incompetent leadership. With midterm elections coming up in November of this year, it is critical that we turn America blue.
